Launching of commemoration for the Centenary of the Great War [fr]
Mr François Hollande, President of the Republic, has officially launched the commemoration of the centenary of the First World War.
‘We stand on the threshold of exceptionally important commemorative cycles for our country but also for Europe and for the world, the Centenary of the First World War and the seventieth anniversary of the Liberation of France.
These two major conflicts are branded in our national memory where personal stories are mingling and linking together and mixing with the destiny of our country. These two founding events are echoing and bonded together but we will celebrate them separately because of their uniqueness and specificity.”
