Remembrance Day [fr]
As they are used to do every year the Vanuatu authorities were alongside representatives of Allied countries to commemorate Remembrance Day (Armistice on 11 November).
The French ambassador, Mr. Alain du Boispéan laid a wreath at the war cenotaph. Navy Captain Lenormand, deputy to the Supreme Commander of the French Armed Forces in New Caledonia, and representatives from the National Union of Retired Gendarmes New Caledonia Vanuatu, were also in attendance.
The High Commissioners of Australia and New Zealand and representatives from visiting New Zeland delegations also laid wreaths.
One hundred years after the beginning of the First World War, the commemoration of 1918 armistice feels very special.
