The French Navy frigate « Vendémaire » calls in Port Vila [fr]
The French Navy surveillance frigate “Vendémiaire” has made a routine call in Port Vila from 4 to 8 November on the way back to her home port in Nouméa.
The Captain of the “Vendémaire”, Commander Jean-René Degans, had the opportunity to make courtesy calls to Mr Reuben Olul, Port Vila mayor, and to Mr Arthur Caulton, Police Commissioner. The Prime Minister, Mr Moana Carcasses, was the guest of honor at a luncheon onboard the frigate.
The strong links between the French Army Forces in New Caledonia (FANC) and Vanuatu has been reaffirmed during meetings with VPF (Vanuatu Police Force) and VMF (Vanuatu Mobile Force). The FANC are in particular involved in Operation Castor with the aim of renovating public buildings in Vanuatu, and also in transportation of materials for development micro projects situated in isolated areas.
The reception held at the French Residence was very successful and was attended by Mr Edward Natapei, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, also acting Prime Minister. Officers and sailors shared their experience at sea with the guests.
Training sessions for VMF and VPF Maritime Wing personal took place during the call of the ”Vendémaire”. Students from Lycée Le Clézio and other schools in Port-Vila had an opportunity to visit the ship.
